Treasures Over Time is all about time. The hundreds of millions of years it took nature to present us with her gifts. Time brings diversity of form, color, texture, morphology, landscape and clues about ancient life into our lives.
About Nes Sergott, GIA Diamonds Graduate
Having been a collector for many years, Nes certainly understands the need to possess an object because of its rarity, beauty, unusual shape, pattern or color(s). Over the years, he has collected many different things. He also worked in the collectibles market at JJ Teaparty in Boston selling coins and modern & antique jewelry. The collectable, however, that eventually took possession of him was rocks and minerals. And, once he went to his first major show, he was hooked! He started reading all about rocks and minerals and became totally absorbed. As he started collecting these “gems” he became curious about geology. Once he opened a book on geology, there was no going back. And, he hasn't stopped reading yet because studying geology led him to chemistry, crystallography and geography. He still doesn’t totally comprehend it all but will never stop trying.

Now you know how I got started in this business. Aside from collecting objects, I have also discovered that Sivan and I are collectors of style. And, this is where we come into your life. We love to collect things because of color, patterns (usual and unusual), shapes, texture and overall design. And, we like to see how these objects all fit together. The really nice thing about our “personal style” is we get to share it with each other and with you. We bring new elements into each others lives that we might never have considered by ourselves. Now, with your kind patience we would like to share our “style” with you. We think you will be pleasantly surprised and delighted with our offerings.
About Sivan Silverman Sergott, FGA, AG
Sivan enjoys and appreciates beauty, artistry and creativity in her lif
e. She explored all of these areas of interest when she attended the Metalsmithing program at the Program in Artisanry (PIA) which at the time was located at Boston University. After graduating from (PIA) she found a job working at Boston Gems and Findings where she was employed for 23 years. This is where her passion for gems started and a new career as a gemologist began. For 18 out of those 23 years she was the staff gemologist for Boston Gems. While working there with polished and faceted gemstones, she also became fascinated with where these gems originated. What did they look like in their most basic form and habit, before the cutter fashioned them into gemstones? Where did they come from and how did they grow? She was curious to get answers to these questions. This was also the time she discovered she was a collector, something she previously would have denied. Over the years, she had amassed a collection of minerals and decorative items made from rocks and minerals to adorn her home. Often her friends and family would comment how much they liked this or that and would be curious about the material and if she could get one for their home. And, thus, between her and Nes’s backgrounds, their business was born.

Like Nes, I started reading about geology, mineralogy and chemistry. It is fascinating how they all interconnect. I will never be able to learn as much as I’d like about all these topics but they will surely keep me busy for the rest of my life. I would like to pass on one of the most interesting things I have come to realize. We take minerals for granted. Minerals are the backdrop to our lives. Anything that is not organic (i.e.; wood, food, clothing) and not an animal is a mineral. We could not live without minerals. And, indeed, we would not be alive without them. Our bodies contain many minerals as well as the materials that we use to construct our houses, cars and computers, to name just a few.
