These words refer to moss-like patterns seen in some agates and limestones. They are also called arborescent when they appear like branches of a tree. Often, they are mistakenly identified as fossil fern plant impressions because of this appearance. Pyrolusite is the most common mineral, a secondary ore of manganese, which forms this fern or branch like pattern under conditions of oxidation.
