Or, how and why did Birth Stones evolve?

As you probably know, garnet is the birthstone for those born in January. But did you ever wonder how the idea of "birth stones" was born. When early man first observed the natural world around him he didn't understand it. How could he? He had no one to teach him! Slowly, he learned by observation. As his skills improved, sometimes purely by accident, he began to understand. Part of his learning process included making up stories trying to explain the inexplicable, the mysteries of life. Until the real truth was discovered these stories filled in the gap establishing some traditions along the way such as the tradition of "birth stones". The following story explains the birth of "Birthstones".

Our Vacation Dates

As you can imagine, once the craziness of October passes, the excitement of the holidays is over and the New Year begins business tends to quiet down considerably in Salem. This makes it an ideal time to take a short vacation to visit with family and friends. We just want to inform you that we will be closed from January 26 - February 9 for this much deserved vacation.

The poster above is available on our website with other posters of the National Parks done in 6 to 8 color serigraph prints. This one of the Petrified Forest represents one of our most enjoyable vacations. A real "must see" for those of you who've never been!
