This is a massive specimen of sphalerite from Smith County, Tennessee. Spahlerite is a Zinc Iron Sulfide. Under strong lighting you can see deep red flashes of color winking back at you. The piece is larger than your hand and a bit heavier than you might expect. But, then again it is an ore. This would be a nice addition to any ore collection or collection of minerals from the United States.
